BrutPen

Meet Brut Pen: a hand-crafted concrete lead holder and writing tool designed and made by Berru Koksal.

Koksal, a Berkeley architecture graduate, spent a lot of studio time both sketching and working with concrete. This work soon turned into material experiments as Koksal asked herself: What if I captured this existing object, a pencil, in concrete? Koksal says she enjoys working with the material because “the compression element of concrete becomes tension in whatever you’re making”. Concrete also absorbs touch and wear, turning each object into a living artifact. Now, Koksal produces Brut Pens out of her bedroom as a one-person operation. Koksal’s concrete experimentations capture the spirit of The David Ireland House and are available in-person to purchase at our concept store, The Accordion Shop.

Visit The Accordion Shop during open hours Friday and Saturday 12-5pm.

The Accordion Shop
Presented by 500 Capp Street

500 Capp Street is proud to participate in this year’s San Francisco Art Fair with a special presentation of The Accordion Shop.

Launched last year as the foundation’s concept store, The Accordion Shop operates as a platform for artists experimenting across materials and forms. Housed within the historic David Ireland House—once home to Paul Greub’s accordion repair shop—the store honors the site’s layered history while supporting contemporary artistic practices.

For the fair, 500 Capp Street will transport The Accordion Shop beyond its permanent home, offering a curated selection of works by Mildred Howard, Rico Duenas, Patrick Carroll, The Shimura Bros, and others. The presentation highlights the store’s commitment to material experimentation, collaboration, and accessible collecting.

Through this offsite iteration, 500 Capp Street extends its mission to foster dialogue between contemporary art, history, and community—bringing the spirit of 500 Capp Street to the fair floor.

BrutStool is now on sale at the  500 Capp Street and  will be part of the presentation in San Francisco Art Fair 2026.

202019: Occasions

202019: Occasions is pleased to present Realty Principle, a solo exhibition by Eliot D'Silva.

Exhibition: April 16 – April 26, 2026
Opening reception: April 16, 7 pm – 9 pm

Eliot D’Silva’s Realty Principle (not Reality Principle) transforms the apartment gallery into a staged, open house. Visitors pass through domestic scenes: a cologne-scented living room, a bathroom with toothbrushes and a dripping sink, a strobing bedroom with a charger but no phone, and a kitchen of unused, plastic-wrapped utensils. A 4-channel sound work inhabits each space with acousmatic voices (Mother, Father, Daughter, Son). If “Sight Unseen” has come to refer to the execution of a real estate transaction in which property exchanges title prior to physical inspection, here, physical inspection itself becomes the unseen site: each member of the family strains toward an exterior beyond the apartment, staged as a 6' x 1' strip of astroturf on a balcony. Run time: 2 hours.

This exhibition marks the second iteration of Speakers Never Learn, a salon on the sonic made in collaboration with Hyungtae Kim.

Eliot D’Silva is a writer, researcher and teacher living in Berkeley, CA.

Berru Zeynep Koksal collaborated with the artists to prepare the exhibition materials.
